Working can = Play

Today I woke up and was determined to exercise. I started with a little dancing in the streets on the way to @equinox where I took a kickboxing class. I then proceeded to walk to the LES By Robert James store and get my bike. My friend Meaghan and I rode to the Williamsburg store hung there, ate and walked back. I feel great...little tired but great. I'm heading to Whole Foods now. I'm thinking about baking HA! #busyday #feelsgood

Bloated, Gas, Constipation = NOT FUN

Nov. 5, 2012- I know I look like I'm 7 months prenant but I'm not....I'm just bloated, gassy and constipated. YEAH! I wasn't even pushing my stomach out and that's sad.

Gassy....so not fun. I've been farting like there's no tomorrow too. Oh how sexy I feel.

I did some reading and they said eats lots of fiber, prunes, exercise and drink plenty of water. I made whole bran/oat with apple and raison muffins last night. I've had two today and 6 prunes. Tonight I'm going to juice some beets...I'm desperate here. Wish me luck!

I was laughing so hard not only were tears streaming down my face but Rober got up and went in to our guest room...He didn't think it was so funny...You HAVE to read the article here

You'll thank me later...xoxo ML

Thankful for being home

Family, friends and good times. I came home for Thanksgiving week to hang out with my brother. My mom is in France so I didn't want him to be solo. I've had such an amazing week! I got to see so many of my friends....22 in all. (I counted.) When ever I come home it makes me realize how special my friends are to me. It feels so good to be around people who know me and that I know so well. Such great memories and more to come!

Selena and I met in Jr. High. She's still the same...fisty, honest and a friend who would do anything for me.

Lola came with me on the trip....she loves being outdoors.

Garrett Ota and I met at 6th Grade camp and became instant friends when he transfered to my Jr. High. He cut my hair on this trip!

Didi was my friend who took me to Mexico when I was 18...MAN have we had some fun times. I recently went to Turkey with her and her two kids. LOVE them!

Lisa and I were in the 1st grade together...we didn't meet up again until we were 18 her on a blind date with my boyfriend (at the time) roommate. We bailed the guys and started a long lasting friendship!
I surprised my friend Lori for her bridal party! We all met at ASG when we worked there. Best thing to come from that job.

Nick was my high school sweetheart and we've been friends ever since. He is more like family now.

LOVE the San Diego sun....feels so good to be home.

14 Weeks and counting: Hair and Body Check

I started taking prenatal vitamins about 6 months prior to getting pregnant and my hair started growing like crazy then I got pregnant and it went WILD. My hair hasn't been this long since the 5th grade. I was thinking about cutting it but I want to be that hot mom with long hair! HA!

Boobs are up a full size and my stomach has this fat layer around it. Not totally cute but I'm living with it. I'm going to up my cardio...I haven't been that good lately.

Nov. 23, 2012- Ok..I can't believe I'm posting this photo. What is up with my ass? WIDE LOAD.  I'm thinking it's the way I took this photo...well that's what makes me feel better. HA!

It's been 14 weeks now. How do I feel you ask?  Well the gas, bloating and constipation are still my best friends and they make sure they are near me every day! I never really had morning sickness..I mean I would get a barfy feeling when I was hungry but that's it. I rarely get that feeling any more.  I've been taking 2-3 hour naps daily (I had the week off) and waking up at 4 am. It might be bc of the time difference (I'm currently in CA) but who knows. I've been listening to my body. I'm hungry I eat a small snack, I'm thirsty I drink plenty of water, I'm tired I take a quick nap. My goal for the next couple of weeks is to exercise. Yoga and cardio.

I hope the next photo I post I'll have some muscles!

xoxo

Inpiration: Baby/Guest Room/ Office

Nov. 8, 2012- Robert and I are fortunate to live in a two bedroom apartment. The spare bedroom we use as a guest room, an office and a place I keep my shoe rack. HA! I wanted to turn it in to a walk in closet (one of the things on my list of things I want when we buy a house) but Robert said NO WAY you'll just buy more stuff...so it is what it is. Now with the new addition to our family we are transforming it in to a nursery / office (I'm going to be working from home the first three months) / guest room. Right now we have a queen size bed...ya that's OUT OF THERE! Robert thinks we can keep that and have a nursery but he obviously doen't know what goes in to a nursery. HA! SO...like my wedding I'm putting together a mood board. With colors ways, inspirations and things that I love! I want the room to be blue, gray, white and maybe a little teal. Since I'm from CA I want to have things like the sun, whales, water in the decor. Above is the guest bed, glider (it would be in gray) and crib I like. I'm thinking about asking my friend to design a chest of drawers for me as well. I'll be sure to take before and after photos. SO EXCITED!! xoxo ML

FOOD PLEASE

Friday night...We have lights and cell service now...YEAH!! Now all we need is food. The stores nearby aren't stocked yet and there aren't any restaurants opened. SO...we did the next best thing SOUP in a can. We also cleared out our fridge. It's never been so empty.

I woke up bright and early on the hunt for food. I tweeted with @wholefoodsnyc and asked if they were open and they were ! The workers had been there all night stocking shelves. These guys only had 1 hour of sleep! I almost cried I was so grateful.
There were still some shelves that were bare but we got most of what we needed. It felt so good to have food and to cook!

I made a chicken arugula salad for lunch! YUM!! #nothungry anymore.

So happy.

After the storm- Neighbors getting together, window fridge, trees down and cops everywhere!

Last night I rode my bike home after dark.....not so smart! It was pitch black after 31st street which was was really scary event though I was riding really slow. Robert was waiting at the corner for me and he was so worried. Not doing that again. Sunsets today at 5:50 pm and you better believe I'll be home before 5:30 pm.  When I got home I walked up with my bike, Robert and Lola to our neighbors having a cookout in front of our APT. I LOVED IT!! Made me feel so good inside. I love it when people come together. Living in NYC you don't really get to know your apt neighbors so it was really cool to see everyone getting together.
Oh this is how we've been keeping our milk and cheese cold! When we go to bed we put our food out on the fire escape which actually has bee really working!

A tree that fell down on Monday...it's Friday and it's still down.

There are traffic cops up and down the street directing traffic because there are no lights...crazy!

GOOD NEWS we get our electricity back at 11 pm on Saturday...so excited to turn on the lights in my kitchen!

New Yorkers Are Survivors!

Picture your neighborhood in complete darkness, people walking around using flashlights and cop cars patrolling the streets with their lights on.....yep that's what the Lower East Side is like now a days. No power, no cell service and no hot water...some places don't have any water at all.
Our building turned on the hot water last night...YEAH...hot showers and hot water for washing the dishes.

Last night I made dinner by flashlight....ha!

I ended up making a chicken (which I reheated) and cheese quesadilla.

My friend invited me over for a glass of wine and Robert insisted on walking me over.  I'm glad he did because it was scary out on the streets.

I wore my Uggs to my friends..it was cold! Who's from CA!!

The bodega at the corner had a generator going. It was the only lite up thing on the block.
Alls you see are headlights in the night.

One thing I realized through all of this...NEW YORKERS are survivors. They make the best of what is given to them. Ya, it sucks that we don't hav electricity or cell service or hot water...but we're making it work! I love that about the people here. I'm proud to call myself a CA New Yorker!

Hurricane Sandy left us in the dark

Hurricane Sandy hit the tri-state area late night on Monday, Oct. 29th. Robert and I headed out early on Monday to get some things for the house.
On our way out.

The stores were pretty busy.

Rain was coming down...not so hard though. The wind was picking up.

Good ol' Smart Water to the rescue!
I made some chocolate cookies to pass the time.

I decided to work out too!
When everything was said and done there wasn't too much damage. Our roof top door was ripped off its hinges.

And we were left with no electricity, hot water or cell service. Robert walking up our 5 story building.

Through it all though we are good to go! Robert and I have been playing cards by candle light and reading lots of books.
Today, Wednesday, October 31st we rode our bikes up to 63rd/Lex to Equinox to take a hot shower! HA! #Makingitwork.

We hope that all our friends on the east coast are doing good and are safe!

Love- Robert and ML

Work it!

It's Friday and today I completed week 5 of 8 #etc bootcamp @equinox. It's been a bit hard getting up when it's still dark. I ride my bike to the gym which takes about 10 minutes.

Feeling good! Came home hungry and made a whole wheat tortilla with nutella peanut butter with bananas. Yum!
