Beach or Ruin

Robert is from OH and I'm from CA and we live in NYC....so picking a place to get married is a bit hard. We were thinking destination which I was getting excited about but the part that really got us was having all our friends there to celebrate. Robert told me this morning he doesn't really picture himself getting married on the beach...it's not really him and I have to agree (it's not him). So, I'm thinking maybe we find a cute church in Tulum, Mexico and then rent out a cool restaurant and have a fab wedding party there with all our friends and family. Looking in to it now. Maybe we get married at one of the ruins...ha! Just kidding.

On to more research.

THE DATE

Robert and I are planning on getting married a year from now on 11/11/11! It's Robert's favorite number and means wholeheartedness in the Chinese culture and is very lucky! It just so happens to be my sister's birthday too. We're looking at having a destination wedding too. Tullum, Mexico is on the list. I'm doing research now and thinking we'll go there for my b-day in February to check it out. Our goal is to have all our family and friends hang out in one place for multiple days. I can't wait to have everyone we love in one place.

YEAH!!

THE RING

I love the ring Robert got me. It's perfect in every way. I wanted a band with diamonds that had a bit of a vintage feel and that's what I got.  The ring is a size to big so I sandwiched it between two rings I already had. My friend Anna Sheffield made them and she actually made one (the bigger one) for Robert which he wears too. I love the look of a stacked moment and I LOVE for Robert and I to be wearing the same ring. It's a sentimental thing I guess. I emailed Anna to see if she could make something for us. We shall see!

Well Connected

WEDDING PLANNER:
My friend Heather is a wedding planner and owns amorology weddings which is a full creative/wedding service company in San Diego. She brings to life the passion and love two people share for everyone to experience on their special day. The weddings she does are magical. SO...when I got engaged she was the first person I called. She told me she would set me up on a website so I could see everything that needs to be discussed and done. Second step we're going to talk about colors, places and start getting creative...

INVITES
My brother's friend Michelle Hoffman (now Raasch) who is a friend of mine too  facebooked me today and said to get in touch with her sister Lisa who designs wedding invitations here in NYC. Here website is: http://www.CeciNewYork.com/ and it looks looks pretty impressive. I love the photos of Lisa. We actually went to High School with each other. I'm excited to catch up with her and see what she says about invites.

By Robert James Fashion+Rock Show.. ROCKED!!

My future husband is one of the most AMAZING men I've ever met. He's so passionate and ambitious and works so hard for his little family (Lola our dog and I) and inspires me daily.

The Rock show was perfect in every way. It was a gathering of all our friends, customers, bands we love and everyone in between..man it was hard work to put it on but we did it and our teamwork SHINED through!!

Good times!!

The List

Robert and I like to lay in bed and discuss things. Our wedding is one of them. LIST...that's what Robert suggested to start with...start with a list and then we can figure out where we want to get married. See, Robert is from OH and I'm from CA and we live in NYC. There are a lot of people coming from all directions.  We're thinking about a destination wedding and since Robert's favorite number is 11 we're thinking about 11/11/11...cute right!

I expressed that I don't want kids at the wedding but Robert put that one out real quick. Is that bad to want my friends all to myself without their kids... I don't think so. OH...also..We've already received a "this is when I won't be able to come to your wedding" email. I was a bit put off by it. HELLO this is not your wedding it's ours.  Oh god..am I starting to be bridezilla?

Where to start

We got SO BURNT
Last day in Turks and Caicos.
Robert and I got back from Turks and Caicos (burnt to a crisp) and jumped RIGHT in to planning our By Robert James Fashion+Rock party. Oh...we own a menswear brand and store together. He designs all the clothes, runs the store and heads up the business portion of things and I work on events, marketing and PR. I also have a full time job at a magazine..but that's a whole other blog..HA!

So, after we got engaged I texted my mom and brother and we skyped Robert's parents. Then I text and emailed all my good friends. Robert was a bit surprised that I didn't post anything on Facebook but I have to tell you I wanted to keep it private.... I later posted it and the response back was so thoughtful and heartfelt from all our friends.

Any how...we haven't had time to think about a wedding or the date...that will come after the ROCK SHOW!!

WE GOT ENGAGED!!

Robert and I went to Turks and Caicos for our friend Sarah and David's wedding which was 10/10/10. The wedding  was magical.  At one point in the wedding Sarah looked out to the crowd with a shock look on her face.  I asked her what was going on and she said "I can't believe all the people we love are under one roof. It's amazing to see everyone together." At that moment I KNEW I wanted to have a wedding. I of course wasn't engaged at that point but I knew that I wanted to have a wedding with ALL my friends in attendance.

The day after the wedding Robert and I spent the day laying out on a couch/bed with an umbrella over us facing the ocean sipping on foo-foo drinks and eating chicken wings... It was our little HEAVEN.
Our little heaven.

We headed back to our hotel along the beach and that's where Robert popped the question. He told me he had to go to the bathroom and didn't want to go in to the ocean so he asked that I follow him up to the  trees so I could be on the look out. I was confused and honestly just wanted to read my book.  Then he asked me to put my stuff down and got down on one knee and ask said "Michelle Lindsay will you marry me?" I'm not sure what shocked me more...him on one knee or him getting me the most PERFECT ring EVER!! I of course said yes. People ask is it different...heck ya it is. I can't explain what the difference is but there is one. Maybe it's that I'll be with this man for the rest of my life...God that's a great feeling! I'm looking forward to our future...Now let's start to plan a wedding!!
